If you handle appeals in North Carolina, you need a copy of the Style Guide. This guide is put together by the state’s Appellate Rules Committee and updated regularly.
I’ve had to handle appeals in other states, where I don’t normally practice, and it’s a huge disappointment when a state lacks a guide like this. If you have an occasional appeal in North Carolina, you’ll want to partner with a state appellate attorney or grab a copy of the Style Guide.
In particular, this update incorporates recent Appellate Rule amendments, transcript changes, a new section on sealing documents, and a checklist for complying with Rule 42 regarding privacy issues.
Kudos and thanks are due Committee member Caitlin Mitchell for leading the charge on this updated guide, along with her team, Nathan Wilson, Scottie Forbes Lee, and Tim Longest!
